Koduru

A remote village between Kadapa and Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh, already famous for the mango plantations, hopefully going to be more popular by the name of HUT K- a learning hub and cultural extension for like-minded artists and enthusiasts along with the rural children for whom they have wide varieties of knowledge exposure through practical and natural methods of learning.

Here it is...the vision of HUT K.

Dr. Abraham and his family showed me the attributes of learning.According to them it is all about the methods and ways in which we treat the nature and deal with cultivation, naturalist view on the way we live and the simplicity and rapport with earth which we unfortunately lose these days.

What is HUT K?

HUT K is an educational initiative -originally adopted from the ancient 'gurukula' tradition of eduation-which is about to start its operation by a young Malayali dental surgeon-Dr. Abraham Thomas and his wife Sheeba.
Dr. T.M Samuel moved from Kerala to Kodur-a remote village in Andhra Pradesh- in 1939 and he realised once he finished his medical studies that the remote villages and villagers are more in need of health care during that time and the rural and tribal health practices were losing the faith and demand due to the introduction of Alopathic medication. Still he lives in the memories of the villagers. "Ma devudu" is the answer we get if we ask "do you know Dr.Samuel?" to any of the old natives.
Dr. M.S Thomas reached here along with his family, saying "no" to many offers came in search of him, one years after the demise of Dr Samuel. He still comes and keeps his role as a doctor.

Dr. Abraham followed the path of both his father and grandfather and serves his better time here in a small clinic and these years he's working upon the establishment of "HUT K" and "LEELA"- another part of the main with the support of his family and well wishers.

Thomas, eldest among Dr. Abraham's kids, is gifted with his artistic skills, has a creative portfolio of paintings and has a wider mind to facilitate the activities of HUT K.

Simon, the 8 years old and second one, manages the farming and bonsai collection. He spoke to me about his experience with the bonsai art and knowledge about plants and species for hours and mesmerized me. Both of them learned things from their own approach to their own premises.

LEELA

Dr. Abraham says "This is part of the first Post Office Building in Koduru. This was built in the early years after Independence! This too was part of my grandfather's contribution to kodur, like the telephone exchange building and the board school!! This will serve as a library and learning centre, Leela.

I thought adorning it with bamboo on a balcony-extension of slaked-lime plasters & clay-tile floors made it look natural and that it did not interfere with the age of the building or it's character!"

           LEELA

LEELA is an extension of HUT K. It serves as the library-consists books from various genres- and learning center where the classes will be taking place. Doctor and his family plan to allow and ensure the access of education for the children irrespective of the linguistic and financial diversities. They would like to welcome every individual and make use of such a great place. In addition to these, they welcome all the creative and ready-minded people to contribute their skills and talents to make this place as a garden of ideas.

Dr. Abraham's faebook posts.

Dr. Abraham writes," Abu, my 14-year-old nephew and his two little assistants Thomas and Simon, carefully searched the old walls and roofs in our neighbourhood for Ficus plants growing in crevices and cracks. They extracted them out carefully and created a small bonsai garden in 20 days. Now, we have a new vocation in the making. The potter is ready for a come back to make the bonsai trays :)
A super summer holiday exercise for growing up with the most resilient species of trees
